Screen Printing FAQ

What is screen printing?

Screen printing is a professional printing method where ink is pushed through a fine mesh screen onto a garment. Each colour in the design is printed using a separate screen, allowing for bold colours, sharp detail and excellent durability. The inks are cured at high temperatures so the print bonds with the fabric, creating long lasting prints that withstand repeated washing and regular wear.

Is screen printing better than DTG or DTF

Screen printing is widely considered the best option for larger runs of garments because it produces vibrant colours, excellent durability and consistent results across the entire order. While DTG and DTF printing are useful for very small quantities or highly detailed artwork, screen printing remains the preferred method for brands, merchandise runs and bulk production where quality and reliability are essential.

What artwork format do you need for screen printing?

We recommend vector artwork such as AI, EPS or PDF files for the cleanest results. High resolution raster artwork may also work depending on the design. If you are unsure, send us what you have and we will review it before production begins.

What is the minimum order for screening?

Screen printing requires preparation for each colour in the design, so minimums help keep production efficient. Orders typically start from 24 pieces for 1–3 colour designs, with 4+ colours or more complex artwork requiring around 50 pieces.

How long does screen printing take?

Our typical turnaround time is around 10 to 15 working days from artwork approval. Production times may vary depending on order size and current schedule. Rush production may be available depending on capacity.

Does my artwork require an underbase?

If your design is being printed onto darker garments, an underbase may be required. An underbase is a layer of white ink printed beneath colours to ensure they appear vibrant and accurate on dark fabrics. We will always advise on the best print approach when reviewing your artwork.

What print sizes and placements are available?

Screen printing can be applied to a wide range of placements including front and back prints, sleeve prints, chest prints and larger graphics depending on the garment type. Our team will help determine the best placement for your design.

What garments can be screen printed?

Screen printing works well on many garments including T shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, long sleeve shirts and tote bags. The process is ideal for cotton and cotton blend garments commonly used for merchandise and retail clothing.

Can you help choose the best garment for printing?

Yes. We regularly help customers choose suitable garments based on print style, budget and intended use. We commonly recommend premium blanks such as AS Colour, but we can also source alternatives depending on your project.

Do you offer merchandise finishing services?

Yes. We offer finishing services such as folding, bagging, swing tagging and woven label application, allowing your merchandise to arrive ready for retail, events or distribution.

Can I supply my own garments?

Yes, customer supplied garments can be printed, although minimum order quantities apply. If supplying your own garments we recommend sending a sample first to ensure they are suitable for screen printing.
